108" sleeper - extended
Those of you at the Mid-America Truck show got to see first hand a customized Tonkin Replicas Precision Series Peterbilt with a 108" sleeper. We have posted it to the blog as well. As many of you know, this was an experimental piece that takes advantage of Tonkin Replicas highly flexible cab/sleeper configuration that is pretty easy to customize. Of course one of the main issues with the original was the truck frame was too short to be realistic for a Peterbilt with an aftermarket 108" sleeper. So, after Mid-America we took this back to the shop to:1) Stretch the frame about 1.18 inches (30mm)
Note: Best place to cut the frame is between the 2 holes made for the ladder. 2) Took a piece of C channel brass, stretched out the frame, the soldered this onto the frame. 3) Repainted it, adding 2 part epoxy for strength. 4) Put the cab and sleeper back on the frame, gluing the tanks back on. 5) Just for fun, we took an extra box from another scrap cab to make it look like a generator box. 6) Just to add detail, we then added two custom tool boxes taken off a Kenworth to make steps for the sleeper entry. 7) Finally, due to the long frame we added two deck plates on the back. Special note: The John Deere units shown here are 1:50 scale Athearn units, added to the stepdeck just for fun.

Sense of Urgency

AHL 1:64 (Kit bash!)

Richard recently hosted an American Highway Legends (A.H.L.) 1:64 scale kit bash contest featuring work by several customizers. First place was won by John Ackerman, but some great work here all around by quite a few different people. If you have ever taken the time to customize or kit bash a truck you have to check this out.
