Custom 1:87s

We recently received some photos and descriptions of some customized 1:87 scale trucks Mark Kulak had made. We don't always see a lot of extremely customized 1:87 scale trucks so we thought it would be fun to share these along with his notes... Enjoy!

Here are some custom Tonkin Pete's I did up.

12 Axle

This started as a Tonkin Pete i used promotex frame and rear fenders on the truck. The trailer is custom built by Doug Musey of Top Dog Models. I added full fenders on the trailer from Promotex as well. The load is a siku shovel that i weathered up with cement and white glue.

Belly Dump

Again a Tonkin 389 pete that i cut into a daycab this time. I built a headache rack and bumper as well as a deck plate that was made out of plastic banding. The trailer is a laser cut kit that i built and detailed with full fenders, lights, mud flaps and a tarp to match the truck.

Big Bunk

Here is a custom built 389. The frame, tanks, and fenders are from promotex. The bunk is custom built from scratch. The trailer is a promotex drop deck that I added tool boxes and long fenders to. The loads are from the chooch and life like. I chained the rear load down altough the chains a little big. I used pictures of Southern Pride trucks as the idea for this one. On a side note the visor on this truck is cut down from a 1/64 scale Peterbilt (thanks to Bruno Cerri for the idea)

Flamed

Nothing to fancy here just a stock truck that i switched frames on. I than added a Malibu grill and a texas bumper. The flame decals and the chrome roof overlay both came from Bruno Cerri. The trailer is a custom built tanker from Doug Musey again with my custom decals added to the trailer.

Group

Here is a shot of the 5 389's i had here in a row.

Pinky

I added full fenders and a turbo wing to the truck both from promotex. The trailer i added chrome front and rear as well as making it into a spread axle.

Step Deck

Just mixed and matched for a pretty sweet looking combo

Super B

here is my heavy hauler its a 389 pete pulling a set of super B lumber trailers. The base truck is from Tonkin i cut the bunk off and used a promotex sleeper and built the bottom up to match the cab hieght. I used a grill and steps from malibu as well and fenders from a promotex frame. The headache rack is from dennis aust. The trailers were built by Doug Musey. I than added single fenders from promotex, lumber from Grandt line that has been strapped and blocked. To finish off i added mud flaps and light decals i made on my computer.
